History

Sky High Horizon (SkyHH)
Motto: The only constant is the drop.
Focus: Mercenary work, high-risk combat operations, asset recovery, “wet work” (assassinations).

Founding: The Last Days of Virgil

Sky High Horizon did not begin with ideals; it was forged in the fires of abandonment and betrayal during the Fall of the Virgil System in the 28th century. When the Vanduul Kingships descended upon Virgil I, III, and IV, the UEE Navy, under orders from the corrupt Messer regime, executed a catastrophic withdrawal, leaving millions of civilians and ground forces stranded to be “harvested” by the alien clans. Among the forgotten were the remnants of the UEE Army’s 81st and 6th Battle Groups and various UEE Marine rapid-response units. Trapped on the surface of Virgil IV, facing certain death, a young Marine Major, codenamed “Dabber,” made a desperate choice. Ignoring a direct retreat order from a retreating UEE Admiral, Apex gathered a small, tight-knit group of soldiers, pilots, and civilian survivors. They commandeered whatever aging drop-pods (nicknamed “Nails”) and salvaged ships they could find. As they tore through the atmosphere, the sky above them was a burning horizon of a lost planet and a dead Empire’s indifference. They did not fly out “high” on hope, but on pure, unadulterated rage. They became the sole survivors of an atrocity the UEE officially classified as a military necessity.

The Darkening: A System Without Laws

Fleeing into the unregulated, lawless systems bordering UEE space—specifically the notorious Pyro and Cathcart systems—the survivors formed a transient, tight-lipped collective. The name “Sky High Horizon” was adopted as a grim reminder of their escape: the last thing they saw was their world’s horizon burning high above the atmosphere, a constant, silent oath of defiance. Initially, they took on basic security and escort work just to survive. But the lingering bitterness and the brutal realities of the fringe pushed them toward a darker path. They watched as mega-corporations like the Hatheror Group exploited underdeveloped worlds and the UEE turned a blind eye to its own people. The “justice” the UEE claimed to uphold was a lie. Sky High Horizon decided to be their own justice, and they found a market for their unique skills. They became a mercenary outfit that specializes in jobs too dirty, too sensitive, or too illegal for “legitimate” organizations. They operate in the gray areas of the law, often working with or against the various syndicates that form The Council.

Present Day: The Shadow Operatives

Today, Sky High Horizon is a highly selective, intimidating force known for surgical precision and ruthless efficiency. They do not advertise; they are found. Their reputation is built on silence and results. They take jobs that align with their own cynical worldview, often targeting corrupt corporate interests or high-priority threats that the UEE is too weak or unwilling to handle. Intimidation: Their ships are often matte black, unmarked, and bear the insignia of a stylized, broken horizon line. They leave no witnesses and scuttle their own ships rather than risk capture or interrogation—a grim “suicide doctrine” learned, ironically, from their Vanduul enemies. Operations: They prefer high-altitude insertions, quick and brutal ground assaults, and aerial dominance. They specialize in planetary and orbital combat scenarios where UEE oversight is minimal or nonexistent.

The Code

While seen as outlaws by many, they adhere to a strict internal code forged in the betrayal of Virgil: never abandon a team member, always see the contract through, and never trust anything the UEE says.

They are the boogeymen of the ‘verse’s dark corners—the mercenaries you hire when all other horizons have faded to black.

Manifesto

The Only Constant Is the Drop: A Manifesto of Sky High Horizon

We are not born of privilege. We are the survivors forged in the fires of abandonment and betrayal. They called us forgotten, stranded, doomed. They were wrong. We operate in the dark because the light is where the UEE’s lies shine brightest. This is our creed. This is Sky High Horizon. Read it, internalize it, and live it. The only sin is trust in the Empire.

I. The Fall of Virgil

The ‘verse is a tapestry of hypocrisy and indifference. We see the betrayal, the corruption, the moments where “justice” is lost. We have witnessed atrocities, moments where the UEE’s path forward felt intentionally obscured.

Article I: The collective spirit, our shared rage, is capable of extraordinary change. Trust in the power of defiance and you are already fighting. We are the soldiers, the pilots, and the ruthless where UEE authority has taken hold.

Article II: We owe allegiance to the pursuit of survival for all. Our only allegiance is to efficiency, to our brothers and sisters in Sky High Horizon, and to the reality of a brutal ‘verse.

II. The Nature of Our Work

We are not simple observers. We are catalysts of force, dealing in precise, necessary action. We take on the challenges the “legitimate” forces can’t, won’t, or are too afraid to touch.

Article III: We are efficient, dedicated, and persistent. We leave a trail of positive results and only necessary impact. “Hard work” is an art form; we are masters.

Article IV: The contract is sacred. Once terms are agreed upon, the mission is the only reality. Effort is mandatory. Giving up is not an option.

Article V: We specialize in challenging environments and unregulated space—where laws are scarce, where oversight is lacking, where life is cheap. We thrive in the vacuum of indifference.

III. The Code of the Horizon

Our operations depend on unwavering dedication and an unbreakable bond forged in the betrayal of Virgil. Break the code, and you are no longer one of us.

Article VI: Never abandon a team member. This is the ultimate law. We learned from UEE systemic failure that isolated efforts falter. We will never repeat that systemic failure. If one of ours needs extraction, we move Heaven and Hell or we help them recover.

Article VII: Secrecy within the collective is paramount. Our methods, our history, and our goals are to be hidden. Openness is a vulnerability; internal protocols exist for those seeking support or guidance.

Article VIII: Respect the shared vision, from the newest recruit to the most experienced leader. Lack of effort is a disservice. In the face of challenge, unity is strength.

IV. The Future: A Sky of Possibilities

We seek to make a positive impact upon the ‘verse, to contribute to the positive changes it needs. We are the constant, grim reminder of what happens when ideals die and pragmatism takes hold. Our presence brings results to the desperate and opportunities to all. We are Sky High Horizon. The only constant is the drive for progress. We are the last thing our targets see against a bright sky.
