History

Welcome Surveyors, Cartographers, and other Explorers!

I bet you’re wondering, why this little guild? Why this organization? What’s so special about it?

Compared to the large, inter-system and inter-planetary organizations, this little group may seem beneath your interest. However, for those who take a closer look, they’ll find a community of dedicated professionals, who come together from various organizations, to drink, socialize, share stories and above all, explore the galaxy.

Background (In-Universe)

The Survey and Recon Exploration Guild (SOREX) can trace its roots very distantly to the Free Mason’s guild of earth, all the way back to the early 2000’s. Back then, the Free Mason’s were a secretive, quasi-religious organization of professionals and specialists who were masters of their trade. Everything from electricians, to plumbers, to you guessed it, cartographers. Over the years, many other groups would fracture off the Free Mason’s, form their own organizations, grow, fall, and die out as time ticked on.

SOREX was one such guild, getting its original Spectrum ID way back in the early 2300’s during some of the early days of the Age of Exploration. Back then it was referred to as the Survey, Orienteering, Reconnaissance and Exploration Organization (SOREX), and was a serious organization which was responsible funding or discovering outright many of the important systems and landmarks we know today. The guild declined after the Colonial Expansion Era, and fell into disuse during the Messer Regime, which had little interest in exploration.

Following the fall of the Messers, exploration once again became viable. An old, retired hobbyist named Jason Broc bought the rights to the Spectrum ID from the government in 2850, and changed the name slightly to make it a little less…gaudy.

From there, the organization maintained a small but close-knit group of friends and family

Manifesto

Who are we?

We are the Skáld. Prophets of the Lost Word of the Dróttkvætt. We preach of the 3 M’s of Life: Mead, Meat and Mates. We share these virtues with others through voice and action, serving the denizens of the Verse in any way we are able. Through exploration, cargo hauling, Search and Rescue, mining and so much more, we serve as witnesses to the power of the Word. And through our testament, we can show that the Word is good.

Our goal is simple. We seek to spread the Word of the Skáld throughout the Verse. How is this done? That varies by the person. Everyone has their own interpretation of the Word, but if they embrace the Mead and the Meat, they are welcome as Mates of the Skáld.

Code of Conduct

All members are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.
1) No drama.
2) Be respectful and polite to each other. Don’t be dicks to other members or players outside the unit.
3) If you have a disagreement, be constructively critical. Disagreements will happen, how we handle them makes the difference.
4) If you say you’ll do something, stick to it.
5) Participate! Participation and communication are needed for us to be a unified community. We can’t get to know each other if we never interact.
6) Check the drama.
7) Show your allegiance, be proud to be Skald! We hope you want to proudly fly our colors in-game.

Communication:

If you have a new idea, want to try something different or aren’t happy (or are!), speak up! Communication is key in any community, and every community seeks to improve. If people do not speak up, an issue or problem may be overlooked, or we may stop doing something that has been improving us.

Don’t let things stew until you’ve had enough; we are a community here. If you have an issue with a friend, you do not fix things by just cutting off communication; nothing good ever comes of that. Give people the benefit of the doubt – we can always do better.

Warnings:

Warnings are issued for abuse of the CoC; they will not be issued for misunderstandings, but will be issued for blatant disregard for the CoC. Over time, they will expire. If no further warnings are received, you have a clean slate. If the user receives three (3) warnings at any given time, they will automatically be removed from the community.

Warnings will be issued by the collective officers; they cannot and willnot be issued by individual officers or leadership.
