Welcome to the POTATO Council, a faith dedicated to the Sacred Spud. In the vastness of space, we find unity, resilience, and sustenance in the potato. Our mission is to guide all travelers with compassion, adaptability, and strength. Join us, and may the Tater light your path.
The History of the POTATO Council: A Chronicle of Starch
“History is not written in ink, but in the soil. Civilizations rise and fall, but the Potato remains.” — Grand Cultivator Silas “Spud” Thorne, 2903
The Age of Germination (The Origin Story)
The origins of our faith trace back to the late 29th Century, during the infamous “Long Drift of 2899.” Our founder, a humble deep-space hauler named Silas Thorne, suffered a catastrophic quantum drive failure in the dead space between the Stanton and Pyro systems.
With life support failing and rations depleted, Thorne prepared for the end. In his cargo hold, amidst a shipment of spoiled luxury goods, he found a single, unblemished sack of primitive Earth potatoes. For 47 days, Thorne survived on nothing but raw tuber and recycled water.
In the delirium of oxygen deprivation, Thorne recorded that the largest potato—now known as the “Prime Tuber”—began to glow with a warm, golden light. It did not speak, but it communicated a feeling of infinite calm and resilience. It taught him that to survive, one must be like the potato: thick-skinned, full of energy, and capable of thriving in the dark.
When the UEE advocacy finally found his drifting ship, Thorne was not starving. He was enlightened.
The Cultivation Era
Upon his return to civilization, Thorne sold his ship to purchase a plot of land on a harsh, arid moon. Critics said nothing would grow there. Thorne planted the eyes of the Prime Tuber. Within a standard cycle, the fields were lush.
News of the “Miracle Crop” spread. Drifters, refugees, and disillusioned pilots flocked to Thorne’s farm, not just for food, but for the philosophy he preached. They learned that the potato was the perfect organism:
It has “eyes” to see the truth.
It has “skin” to endure the void.
It grows underground, humble and unseen, until the harvest.
By 2915, this loose collective of farmers and haulers formally organized into a humanitarian aid fleet. They called themselves The Tubers of Truth.
The Great Starvation & The Starch Crusade
The turning point for the organization came during the Oree Blockade of 2930. A pirate syndicate had cut off supply lines to a remote mining outpost, starving thousands. The UEE Navy was days away.
The Tubers did not wait. Loading a convoy of Hull-series freighters with megatons of nutrient-dense mash, they ran the blockade. They didn’t use missiles; they used sheer hull strength and “aggressively passive” maneuvering. They dropped supply pods—painted to look like giant russets—onto the colony. The pirates, confused by the lack of military engagement and the sheer volume of carbohydrates raining from the sky, retreated.
The colony was saved. The “Starch Crusade” proved that a potato in the hand is worth more than a laser repeater on the wing.
The Formation of the Council
Recognizing the need for structure to manage their growing fleet, the organization was reformed in 2945 as The POTATO Council.
A hierarchy was established based on the lifecycle of the Holy Spud:
The Roots: New initiates and trainees.
The Vines: Explorers and resource gatherers.
The Skins: Security and protection wings (The Shield of Starch).
The Harvest: The ruling council of elders who guide the fleet.
The Present Day
Today, the POTATO Council operates across the Verse. We are found in the darkest corners of Grim HEX, handing out hot meals to the downtrodden, and in the luxury halls of MicroTech, reminding the elite of their humble roots.
We possess a fleet of Endeavor research vessels dedicated to creating the “Eternal Spud”—a potato capable of growing in the vacuum of space. Until that day comes, we fly. We protect. We fry.
The history of the universe is vast, but we are the starch that holds it together.
We, the devoted followers of the Sacred Tater, unite under the banner of the POTATO Council to bring nourishment—both spiritual and practical—to the stars. In the vast and uncertain expanse of the universe, we hold firm to the eternal truths embodied by the humble potato: resilience, unity, adaptability, and sustenance.
Our BeliefsThe Potato is Sacred. Its simplicity teaches humility, its endurance inspires strength, and its versatility reflects the infinite paths of life among the stars.
Unity Is Strength. As potatoes gather in a harvest, so do we gather as a community—stronger together, never alone.
Sustenance for All.We work to ensure no traveler drifts hungry, hopeless, or without support. Where the POTATO Council goes, nourishment follows.
Adaptability Is Survival. The potato thrives in every soil; we thrive in every system. Challenges are simply new fields to grow in.
Our PurposeWe pledge to spread the wisdom of the Tater across the galaxy—through compassion, protection, exploration, and aid. The POTATO Council seeks to bring peace to conflict, stability to chaos, and laughter to the void. Our mission is not conquest; it is cultivation.
Our CallingTo join the POTATO Council is to accept a higher purpose: to be a beacon of starch-fueled hope in the cold night of space. We answer distress calls, support allies, explore the unknown, and welcome all who seek guidance beneath the glowing light of the Sacred Spud.
In Tater We Trust As long as stars shine and potatoes grow, our faith endures. Glory to the Tater. Strength in the Starch. Unity in the Harvest.Charter of The POTATO Council
“Resilience. Unity. Sustenance.”
Preamble
We, the undersigned members of The POTATO Council, hereby establish this Charter to govern our actions, guide our fleet, and protect our community. Just as the potato sustains life in the harshest winters, this Charter sustains order in the chaos of the Verse. We dedicate our ships, our credits, and our lives to the preservation of the Sacred Spud and the aid of all travelers.
Article I: The Tenets of the Tuber (Code of Conduct)
All members, from the freshest Sprout to the High Harvest, must adhere to these core principles.
1. Respect the Soil (Community Standards) Just as a field cannot grow if the soil is toxic, a community cannot thrive with toxicity. Harassment, discrimination, and “salting the earth” (griefing allies or org members) are strictly prohibited. We are here to grow together.
2. The Seasons Change (Real Life First) The potato is patient; it waits underground for the right time. We acknowledge that Real Life takes precedence over the game. There are no activity quotas. When you return, the harvest will be waiting.
3. Do Not Rot the Crop (No Piracy/Griefing) The POTATO Council is a force for preservation, not destruction. We do not engage in unprovoked piracy or griefing. We are the shield, not the sword. However, if attacked, we possess the density to crush our enemies.
4. Share the Starch (Mutual Aid) If a member is stranded, out of fuel, or pinned down, it is the duty of the nearest capable member to provide assistance. We leave no Tater behind.
Article II: The Fields of Operation (Divisions)
Our fleet is divided into specialized branches, each serving a vital role in the cultivation of our influence.
1. The Root Network (Logistics & Industry)
Mission: Mining, Salvage, Cargo Hauling, and Refueling.
Motto: “We Dig Deep.”
Role: The economic backbone. They ensure the fleet is funded, fueled, and fed.
2. The Skins (Security & Defense)
Mission: Escort, Bounty Hunting, and Base Defense.
Motto: “Thick Skinned, Hard to Peel.”
Role: The protectors. They guard our haulers and patrol our claimed sectors. They are slow to anger, but devastating when provoked.
3. The Vines (Exploration & Science)
Mission: Charting new systems, Science (Endeavor gameplay), and Search & Rescue.
Motto: “Reaching for the Light.”
Role: The eyes of the Council. They seek the legendary “Eternal Spud” and answer distress beacons.
4. The Eyes (Diplomacy & Faith)
Mission: Inter-org relations, recruitment, and spreading the Manifesto.
Motto: “We See All.”
Role: Ambassadors who negotiate alliances and diffuse conflicts before shots are fired.
Article III: The Growth Cycle (Hierarchy)
Authority in the Council is earned through dedication, helpfulness, and resilience.
Tier 1: The Prime Harvest (High Command) The founders and guild leaders. They direct the overall path of the organization and hold the keys to the treasury.
Tier 2: The Cultivators (Officers) Division leaders (Security Chief, Lead Industrialist, etc.). They organize events, manage ops, and settle disputes.
Tier 3: The Russets (Veterans) Proven members who have shown dedication and skill. They act as squad leaders and mentors.
Tier 4: The Sprouts (Members) The main body of the organization. Fully patched members who have passed the probationary period.
Tier 5: The Seeds (Recruits) Newcomers currently undergoing the “Germination Phase” (probation).
Article IV: Rules of Engagement (RoE)
Status: Defensive / Benevolent.
Yellow Alert: Weapons cold unless locked upon. Hailing is the first line of defense. Offer a potato (or aid) before offering a missile.
Red Alert: If a Council ship is fired upon, or if a traveler requests aid against an aggressor, lethal force is authorized.
The Mashed Protocol: In the event of an overwhelming enemy force, all non-combat ships (The Roots) are to quantum jump immediately. The Skins will hold the line to buy time.
Article V: Amendments & Dismissal
The Composting (Disciplinary Action) Members who violate the Tenets of the Tuber will be subject to review. Serious offenses will result in “Composting” (expulsion and blacklisting).
Amendments This Charter is living, like the organism we worship. It may be amended by a unanimous vote of the Prime Harvest.
Signed, The POTATO Council Glory to the Tater. Strength in the Starch.
