Starship Operators / STOP

Created in 2900, Starship Operators was originally a private starship owner’s club that toured the border worlds carrying supplies and performing odd jobs and tasks the developing worlds needed while promoting and educating the local enthusiasts on advanced starship crew skills.

By 2930 the club had transitioned into an organization as two decades of visiting border worlds resulted in a high number of starship crews being hired by club members who in turn became starship owners and members of the club. This transition also changed the nature of the flights to the border worlds. No longer goodwill tours, Starship Operators has become known as a freelance group that takes on a myriad of jobs and gets them done.

In 2938 the organization was involved in a search and rescue effort as they assisted the militia forces in finding a passenger transport that had reported a collision with an unknown object and then went silent. Starship Operators crews improvised a means of analyzing the sensor data collected from member ships to sift through it in an effort to find the missing ship. Ultimately the local militia located the missing vessel but the system cobbled by the organization showed promise. After all, one day they could be searching for one of their own. By 2940 Starship Operators issued its only known mandatory directive to members: At all times maintain passive sensor active and recording; when docked, transmit that data to the local ST.OP office. That data would run through the now improved software to be analyzed and stored as reference.

As sensor data accumulated and was analyzed, inconsistencies and anomalies were detected which allowed some members with spare time and money to scout the locations and perform active scans of the area. 2942 was the Year of Discoveries for the organization; Starship Operators in just one year were involved in the discovery and mapping of several new jump points leading to known space as well as locating new asteroid clusters and the crowning achievement, finding the remains of the UEE FERAL , a battlecruiser lost with all hands during the first Tevarin war. The organization’s sudden fame brought in a great number of new members interested in exploration; many of which were veteran spacemen flying vessels modified for exploration.

Today, Starship Operators launches exploration expeditions on a routine basis and is still the solid choice to hire freelance pilots when you need that odd job done.
