History

The United Military Coalition (UMC): A Necessary Shield in the ‘Verse

In the year 2910, the United Empire of Earth, while a vast power, stretched thin across countless systems. While the UEE Navy patrolled core worlds and the Vanduul front remained a constant drain on resources, vast swathes of the ‘verse, particularly the volatile frontier systems and independent corporate territories, felt increasingly vulnerable. Pirate activity was surging in systems like Stanton and Pyro, often operating with a level of organization that local security forces couldn’t match. Moreover, unexplained contact events with non-Vanduul hostile entities and catastrophic incidents in deep space highlighted critical gaps in the UEE’s response capabilities, particularly in rapid search and rescue beyond standard patrol routes.
-
It was in this climate of unease and perceived governmental inertia that the concept of a unified, independent military coalition took root. The spark was ignited by five individuals from vastly different backgrounds, each disillusioned with the existing state of security in the ‘verse:

Alexander Jorn:
A decorated former UEE Navy Captain, discharged after publicly criticizing fleet deployment strategies that left frontier systems exposed. He brought tactical acumen and deep knowledge of military structure.

Lyra Tane:
A sharp, resourceful security chief from the wealthy independent corporate entity, Aetherium Solutions. Frustrated by the UEE’s slow response to incursions on corporate assets, she provided significant logistical and financial backing, along with a network of contacts in private security.

Kaelen Vex:
A pragmatic system representative from the Nyx system, a place where UEE law held little sway and self-reliance was paramount. He understood the unique challenges of operating in lawless space and rallied support from other independent systems.

Zara Nari:
A brilliant, if ostracized, Xenoscientist whose research into unconventional energy signatures and potential new alien threats was dismissed by the UEE’s rigid bureaucracy. She brought crucial intelligence on emerging Vandull/Non-Vandul hostiles.

Jaxom Riel:
A visionary, independent ship designer and engineer from the shipyards orbiting Cassiopeia, known for his innovative, rugged spaceframe designs that prioritized adaptability and survivability over standard UEE specifications. He provided the technical expertise to build the UMC’s unique fleet.
-
Meeting initially in the loosely controlled jump point hubs, these five forged the United Military Coalition (UMC). Their manifesto was simple: to act where the UEE couldn’t or wouldn’t, providing robust military security, establishing reliable search and rescue protocols in high-risk zones, and proactively engaging threats that slipped through the cracks of established defenses. The name “United Military Coalition” was chosen to emphasize their nature as an alliance of diverse interests, rather than a single governing body’s military arm.

Trials by Fire and Growing Influence:
The UMC’s early days in 2910-2920 were a constant struggle for legitimacy and survival. They operated in the grey areas of interstellar law, often running afoul of UEE regulations or competing with less scrupulous private security firms. Their first major test came during the ‘Crimson Void Incident’ in the desolate Elysium system. A sudden, unexplained energy fluctuation crippled a vital humanitarian aid flotilla bound for a struggling colony. UEE patrols were days away.

Responding to a desperate priority beacon, UMC elements, coordinated by Jorn and Tane’s combined operational strategy, launched a daring rapid-response mission. Vex’s knowledge of the system’s hidden asteroid belts allowed their small fleet to bypass pirate patrols. Nari’s insights helped predict erratic environmental hazards caused by the energy fluctuation, guiding rescue ships. Riel’s reinforced transport designs proved essential in navigating the hazardous conditions to reach the crippled vessels. While they couldn’t save everyone, the UMC’s swift action prevented a total catastrophe and rescued a significant portion of the flotilla, delivering critical supplies. This single mission, widely reported despite UEE attempts to downplay the incident, cemented the UMC’s reputation for effectiveness and a genuine commitment to saving lives where others failed.

The UMC in the Current Era:
Today, the United Military Coalition is a recognized, albeit sometimes controversial, force in the Star Citizen universe. While not officially part of the UEE military, the UMC often operates in cooperation with elements of the Navy or Advocacy in areas of mutual interest, particularly against major pirate lords or during large-scale humanitarian crises. They maintain a significant presence in less-policed systems, offering protection contracts to corporations and independent settlements, and running dedicated search and rescue fleets equipped with Riel’s advanced designs. They actively track and engage emerging hostile signatures, drawing on Nari’s continued research, often sharing (or trading) this intel with the UEE on their own terms.

From their now stabilized and entrenched UMC Headquarters in Area 18, the UMC remains true to the vision of Jorn, Tane, Vex, Nari, and Riel – a necessary shield forged in the void, protecting the innocent and confronting the darkness that the UEE cannot, or will not, fully reach.

The original visionaries of the UMC, now taken to politics, are working closer with the UEE to expand there own knowledge and to make stronger alliances across the systems.
As such, new ranking members of the UMC, entrusted by the first 5 now coordinate relief and military efforts across the systems to ensure the UMCs reliance never goes unrested, these individuals were provided the position of Sector Generals with the strict job to maintain military and relief operations in key systems to ensure that tyranny and crime remain low in all UMC operated space.

UMC: United in Mission, Courageous in Action.

Manifesto

OUR MISSION & INTENTIONS
The UMC exists to act where the UEE cannot or will not. Our motives are transparent, and our resolve is absolute:

  • To Provide Robust Security: We protect the vulnerable, from independent settlements to corporate interests, ensuring that trade and life can flourish without fear of piracy. We protect the unprotected, from cargo haulers to single pilot fighters. We engage any pirates or griefers looking to cause neutral or allied members any hostile action.
  • To Execute Rapid Search & Rescue: Space is unforgiving. We maintain dedicated SAR fleets to answer priority beacons in high-risk zones that others deem “too dangerous” to enter.
  • To Confront Emerging Threats: We do not wait for an invasion to begin. We track, engage, and neutralize hostile signatures—Vanduul or otherwise—before they reach the civilian populace.
  • To Bridge the Gap: While we remain an independent alliance, we cooperate with the UEE Navy and Advocacy when our goals align, serving as a force multiplier for the safety of all humankind.

THE NEW ERA: SECTOR GENERALS
As our original Founders transition into the political sphere to strengthen interstellar alliances, the mantle of command has been passed to the Sector Generals.

These leaders are the hand of the UMC in the field. Entrusted by the First Five, the Sector Generals coordinate military and relief efforts across their assigned systems. Their mandate is clear: Maintain the peace, deliver the aid, and ensure that tyranny and crime find no foothold in UMC-operated space.
