The UEEGS is an initiative to promote research of mining techniques in Star Citizen, and to promote knowledge of geology in the real world through examples found in game.
Hello. I’m Terrabyte.
In real life, I’m a geology student. I am very interested in my line of work, and would very much enjoy working on space-based resource missions such as those proposed by Deep Space Industries or Planetary Resources (The real companies, not the other SC orgs. Sorry!). I am also very much a video gamer, and here is a game that features all kinds of geological, astrogeological, xenogeological, asteroidal, and whatever other process names there are for the various phenomena in game.
Naturally, I’m interested in putting these together. It’ll give me a cause to work towards in game, and might help my career outside of it. Reaching out to other SC-playing geology-related professionals earlier gave me an idea – set up an organization dedicated to using SC to teach knowledge of geological processes and mineral exploration and exploitation techniques, using those in game to enhance the learning of those topics out of game. Other possibilities would involve using our real-world knowledge to assist in the development of any unusual geological features that they would like to put on planets, explore methods of mining on asteroids and how refining of those minerals works, and the hiring out of myself to consult for space mining companies in exchange for large amounts of UEC.
I would prefer that the UEEGS be more of an association and interest group more than a full guild. Ideally, anyone who is interested signs on for discussion chats/lectures on various topics (perhaps an SC mining guild head talks for a bit on what his company is doing for more UEC/hour, followed by a real geologist talking about plate tectonics for a while, or a metallurgist on basic nickel extraction), and for a mailing list for our biweekly/monthly/quarterly journal and newsletter covering advances in our understanding of the SC mineral and mining world, as well as related topics in the real world of geology. If sufficient numbers of people similar to myself exist, I can see this organization also promoting networking between people to further their real careers via their SC contacts. Occasional roams out in lawless space, prospecting asteroids and shooting up Vanduul are also a possibility.
If you’re interested, feel free to join.
Cheers,
Terrabyte
The UEEGS exists to promote the research, understanding, and education of geological sciences both in and out of game through the SC universe, and to help people in this field of work network to promote their careers, both in and out of game, as well.
The UEEGS will hold discussions on various topics of interest to the membership, and publish a journal-newsletter at a to-be-defined interval of time to promote understanding of geological processes to any interested parties.
The UEEGS does not intend to claim any space, or demand that people fly together to the exclusion of their other groups – we are just an association of interested parties in rocks and space, not a proper guild.
Note – Community Managers/Mods, if this is too close to something you were intent on using in game for NPC purposes (for instance, if you feel it infringes on the Ares Geological Survey), please contact me, and I will gladly edit it. I do want to keep the tag, though – just how “UEEGS” rolls off the tongue.
Members of the Society shall refrain from unnecessarily harsh, crude, or offensive language; personal attacks… just be nice to each other.
