We are United Steel Mercenary Division (USMD). Our focus is simple: What can we profit from financially? We have come to pyro to make a name for ourselves by any means necessary. If the price is right, we’ll take the job. Die a legend, or live amongst the crowd.
The United Steel Mercenary Division was founded by former UEE Navy members one fateful day after a mission to eliminate a Xenothreat base in Pyro went awry. The objective was clear: exterminate all targets with extreme prejudice. However, the Xenothreat had other plans. Upon their arrival, enemy pilots intercepted the admiral’s ship. Beams of lasers and sprays of rockets flew back and forth in a relentless exchange. Hundreds of Xenothreat pilots descended upon them, yet the admiral and his crew persevered in the fight. For a time, things looked promising. Their ship, the Steel Dragon, decimated many of the enemy fighters. However, their luck would soon change when a rogue suicide bomber, armed with high explosives, collided with the Steel Dragon in a devastating attack.
The once-mighty capital ship was severed in two, leaving many of the crew dead and severely injuring those who survived. The admiral managed to rescue the captain and a group of surviving crew members. Once they gathered their bearings, they made a run for the escape pods. One by one, the escape pods shot out from the wreckage of the ship. Although the survivors were lucky to have escaped, they were not yet free from danger. They found themselves in an unfamiliar system with unknown threats. After drifting in the pods for three days, the survivors of The Steel Dragon crash-landed on the planet Bloom. Not far from Carver’s Ridge, a Headhunter outpost, their crash landing occurred. A group from the outpost saw the crash and decided to survey the area. Upon reaching the crash site, they found a group of rough-looking men. Their lips were cracked and dry from dehydration, and despair was evident in their eyes. Torn space suits and dark bruises covered their bodies. The uniforms were familiar to the Headhunters; they belonged to the United Empire Earth military, which had been sent to Pyro to deal with the Xenothreat. This situation made the Headhunters’ job much harder.
Initially, the Headhunter group considered leaving the men for dead. However, the admiral pleaded for mercy, requesting that he and his men be given time to recover. Over time, the surviving members of the Steel Dragon began to recover. Days passed, but the admiral was unable to receive any radio transmissions, leaving them unable to signal for extraction. Since they weren’t getting out anytime soon, they needed to make themselves useful. After all, their hosts had been quite gracious, and it was polite to return the favor.
Following a few smuggling runs and CFP server wipes, they gained the trust of the Headhunters. News of the surviving UEE members spread to other Headhunters in Pyro, and gradually, they learned how these outlaws operated. For the first time, they experienced a sense of freedom that had never been felt in UEE society. The captain, code-named Venom, managed to collect enough money from missions and from the crew to buy his first ship: the Constellation Taurus. It wasn’t the best ship, but it would help them get started.
Slowly, this new crew of mercenaries began to disrupt trade routes, smuggle drugs, and sell scrap to make a living, purchasing more and more ships to build a fleet. They welcomed any random member who wanted to live free. With each crime they committed, they gradually lost their UEE ways.
The admiral, codenamed Beef sat down with Venom and two others, codenamed Papamidnite and FightingIrish. After lengthy negotiations, they decided to create an organization. Thus, the United Steel Mercenary Division was born. United in memory of the Steel Dragon, these mercenaries embrace their freedom. They offer a range of services—from protection to smuggling, mining to scrapping, and even stealing to investing. For the right price, any job is doable.
