“We gazed into the vortex so long it gazed back”

History

More than a century ago a great void storm threatened our home but the warning fell on our deaf ears, we were too concerned about a war over who ruled that forgotten world, after a century of fighting the ground was reduced to radioactive mud the great seas were mere puddles or lakes and our tactics were brought back to Great War trenches.

It wasnt untill the storm arrived that we put aside our differences our ground stained with blood was left behind the jump points collapsed we were stranded from the rest of humanity, 50 years past a entire generation who never seen the war could not see our divisions grew came and gone claimed by the violent vortex of the mysterious dust which stripped out hulls of paint, debris would take chucks out of our now relic vessels.

A new jump point would open as the storm continued it was the most unstable jump point we had ever witnessed but seeing we could not last many more years we loosed our moorings and set course for it, a mass ejection killed a dozen or so ships what remained were drifting with low power out of control caught by the gravitational pull of the jump point.

Upon entering we saw it a wandering lost star the center of the vortex, most made their peace they were heading home under the constand vigil of the lost star, the ships would be victim to ferocious maelstrom of dust tearing at our hulls once again but the stubern would not relent only a handfull of ships managed to reactivate and loose its grasp after a week of long burn the ships were practically boiling the heatsinks had melted the structure was now absorbing the heat warping making them incapable of a jump but we were free from the lost stars grasp.

Upon returning from the jump point we arrived in a unknown part of space many fewer a mere handfull of ships 2 of each faction and a few industrialist ships transporting the terrified civilians living there lives out of these vast ships, now we wander the void like that damned star trying to rebuild a home.
