Wayward Enterprises™ originated as Wayward Gin™, a cotton ginning business, in the plains of west Texas, the former United States of America, in the 1960s. The company was family owned and operated and found great success until the unpredictable weather patterns of earth, coupled with the arrival of SynthWeave, lead to a restructuring in the 2230s. Ever optimistic, the successors to the group’s founders renamed the organization to Wayward Enterprises™ and took to interplanetary delivery with a desire to trade proven Martian textiles with Ganymede’s booming technological goods. The gamble paid off and a modest fleet grew from the company’s first vehicle, a used RSI Caravan.

Few modern organizations can boast of lineal ownership, but Wayward Enterprises™ has belonged, more or less, to the Codger family and their close friends since the beginning. Only two times has the company been led by anyone not a descendent of the founders, but the founding family returned in both instances within two years. The two CEOs from outside of the family line have explained that the business proved “remarkably unlucky” and that they were met with catastrophic misfortune when attempts to enlarge the company were implemented.

Following the Croshaw expansion, Wayward Enterprises™ again refocused from routine interplanetary cargo delivery in the Sol system toward specialized item transportation throughout the stars. Interstellar delivery proved lucrative and the members of the company were able to expand into smaller ventures such as mining and jump point exploration while staying under the banner of Wayward Enterprises™. Despite varying success, enlargement of the corporation beyond the tightly knit group has never been a goal.

Wayward Enterprises™ stays small and the members of the corporation enjoy what they do: delivery throughout the known galaxy with a personal touch. After all, it’s what WE™ have been doing ever since.
