Origins
Extreme G Racing was formed by a group of ship racers, spearheaded by BlackMaze and Osashes who started their careers in Elite Dangerous. In summer 2021 they started moving over to Star Citizen and soon after formed the racing organization XGR. It began as a grassroots racing community among passionate Star Citizen pilots, organizing races across the ‘verse. What started as a niche group of enthusiasts bonding over adrenaline-fueled starship races soon evolved into a structured competitive organization. Even in its earliest days, events were well-structured, with clear rules and ship limitations to keep competition fair and focused on skill.
XGR’s dedication to the racing scene and its growing influence did not go unnoticed. The organization’s commitment to fostering competitive racing and community engagement led to its recognition within the official Star Citizen universe: On November 11th 2022 XGR was officially canonized as The Snake Pit got integrated into the ‘verse. Not much later many more of XGR’s tracks have been made reality accross multiple planets and moons.
This canonization not only validated the efforts of its members but also solidified XGR’s position as a cornerstone of the game’s racing culture. With this acknowledgment, XGR continues to shape the future of racing in Star Citizen, inspiring new pilots and setting the standard for excellence in the ‘verse.
Manifesto
What set the community apart was the commitment to quality, despite flying under the radar of the broader Star Citizen playerbase. Over time, word spread and the community’s dedication helped XGR grow into a recognized name. The organization expanded its reach, hosting larger tournaments and attracting top-tier talent, solidifying its place in the racing scene. XGR’s reputation for serious, high-level racing earned it a place at the forefront of the Star Citizen competitive scene — no longer just an underground group, but a proving ground for the best racers in the ‘verse.
Charter
In the early days of XGR racing, everything was managed through Google Sheets — from track information to leaderboards. Racers manually submitted their times and video links, making the process functional but far from ideal.
In late 2022, Diplomat began exploring better solutions for organizing time trials. He looked into platforms like speedrun.com, hoping to find something that could support the unique structure and complexity of Star Citizen’s racing tracks. Unfortunately, none of the existing options quite fit the bill.
Diplomat took matters into his own hands and started developing a new platform tailored specifically for Star Citizen racing. By January 2023, the beta version of Star Citizen Racing (www.scr.gg) was up and running. Just one month later in February the site officially launched. The creation of SCR made it significantly easier for racers to discover tracks, submit runs and compete. Since then, the platform has grown well beyond just time trials — becoming a central hub for the racing community in the ‘verse.
