While these features are not yet present in the game, I’m excited about the potential for CIG to implement enhanced NPC quality of life (QOL) when the time comes. Specifically, I look forward to the introduction of hired crew members who are more than just functional units, but rather dynamic individuals with names and personalities. It would be great to see them actively moving around the ship, using its facilities, and engaging in everyday tasks like sleeping, maintaining their personal needs, and interacting with the ship's environment. Adding layers like crew morale—based on factors such as stress, happiness, or even depression—could influence their performance and create a more immersive experience. For example, NPCs could have personal routines, like spending shore leave in town, enjoying a night out at the bar, shopping for new clothes, or simply unwinding after a long mission. This would give players a sense of life aboard the ship, with NPCs interacting with the game world just like real people. Additionally, it would be fantastic if a "Ship Budget" system were introduced, where NPCs could manage the restocking of essential supplies, such as food for the mess hall, ammunition (ballistics, missiles, torpedoes), and other necessities. Crew members could also be given the responsibility of moving cargo on and off the ship as needed, all while maintaining their own routines and needs. These are just some ideas I’m imagining for when CIG eventually focuses on enhancing NPC interactions. I’m curious to know what other unique QOL features the community envisions to make NPCs feel more integrated and alive in the game.
