Hello CIG and the Star Citizen community, With the end of Windows 10 support coming in October 2025, more and more players are refusing to upgrade to Windows 11 and are seeking viable alternatives. Linux is now more accessible and performant than ever, thanks to the advancements in Proton (Steam/Valve) and the success of the Steam Deck. However, Star Citizen is currently unplayable on Linux, primarily due to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), which blocks the game from running through Proton. Why Linux is an opportunity for CIG? :white_check_mark: A new market segment Millions of Windows 10 players do not want to migrate to Windows 11. Many are exploring Linux as an alternative, but without Star Citizen, they cannot join us. Offering Linux support, even indirectly through Proton, would allow CIG to attract these players. :white_check_mark: The success of Steam Deck and Linux gaming Valve has proven with the Steam Deck (which runs Linux) that the market is growing rapidly. Many studios have already enabled Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton, and have seen an increase in players. Star Citizen could benefit from this momentum and position itself as an innovative, accessible game on all platforms. :white_check_mark: Optimized performance and increased flexibility Linux offers better performance for many games and allows players to have a lighter, more optimized system. Additionally, content creators, developers, and power users often prefer Linux, which could attract a new, engaged, and technically savvy audience. What we are asking from CIG: ✔ Enable Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton (as other studios have done). ✔ Test Star Citizen on Proton and share an update with the community. ✔ Explore a long-term Linux-friendly roadmap. Tobii Eye Tracker and Star Citizen on Linux Given the partnership between CIG and Tobii, it would also be great to see if Tobii could develop a Linux driver or open up their SDK to the community. This would make eye tracking accessible on all platforms, further increasing interest in Star Citizen. --- We understand that Linux might not be a top priority for CIG at the moment, but ignoring this emerging market could be a missed opportunity. If you’re a player interested in Linux support, please reply, upvote, and share this post to show that there are many of us waiting for this evolution! Thanks to the CIG team for their work and ambition on Star Citizen!
