Hi All! I recently finished my job and while I'm searching for a new one I've been working on a little project to learn the Xi'an language (as far as a I can with the current resources). However, I've not found a central location on any Star Citizen fan-area that provides a decent central resource for all things Xi'an language. Being THE place to find all the latest Star Citizen content I think that starting an area where interested parties can help each other learn the language would be a fantastic opportunity. Maybe the lore team can provide a little more info as the project advances? Of course, if there is a place to find this info and I've just not looked in the right places (which is entirely possible) then a) I apologise and b) can you point me in the right direction? So here's two resources that CIG have published: 1) An AtV given over to languages which are being built by Britton Watkins of which Xi'an is discussed. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b6tWxM_d0o) 2) A "primer" published during the show which has been stitched together by diligent backer Skenter (https://imgur.com/a/PKRzl#gwqZJqB) To get the ball rolling I'll talk a little about my experiences as a complete novice. I've been looking at the primer for a few days now and have become relatively good at putting letters to some of the pictograms. I've also made progress on assigning inflections and pitch changes. I realise with the current content that deciphering the language is all but impossible but the simple act of converting the pictograms to cleartext and getting the separation of the words right is a great step in the right direction. This is where I'm struggling. Xi'an seems to follow the rules of East Asian languages which have no marker to separate words relying instead on a deep understanding of the language whereby the context implies separate words. An example of this can be seen in Example Sentence 2* in primer which when corrected to cleartext without separating: tuonno'ayoua.isolē Looking at the clear text I could see it looking something like this: tuon noa'yo ua.isolē But! I have no idea whether this is correct. Of course if this is correct then it was by pure chance and I have no idea what rules are employed. Anyway, I hope this stimulates discussion. If you have got further than me how did you go about working through the answers. Do we have the beginnings of a dictionary of Xi'an words? It is my hope that in the coming months we will learn more about languages. Can I ask that if you have already learned the rules, and deciphered the text, then rather than simply pasting the answers below maybe you could help guide the rest of us through your process.
