From the Stars to the Heart: Star Citizen Community's Generous €7,500 Donation to the German Children's Cancer Foundation
In September 2023, led by streamer KnebelDE and Star Citizen SQUADRONS Trading Card Game creator Thomas Eberhard, the Star Citizen community rallied in an extraordinary display of unity and generosity. Their incredible support for the first major SQUADRONS tournament event and Bar Citizen in January 2024 culminated in a noble cause, raising an astonishing €7,500.
As a token of appreciation, an interview with Thomas Eberhard at the German Children's Cancer Foundation in Bonn was conducted in February 2024, celebrating the significant donation made.

The donation by the Star Citizen community was even featured in the print and online magazine of the German Children's Cancer Foundation, which has been translated for you here. Thank you for your donations and your support of the Star Citizen SQUADRONS Trading Card Game:
"Star Citizen – the name of the largest crowdfunding project in history. It's a space simulation game, whose development is entirely funded through donations from a large and loyal fan community. Last year, this community demonstrated its remarkable generosity in a fundraising livestream for the German Children's Cancer Foundation. The charity event was not only organized by KnebelDE, one of the largest German-speaking Star Citizen streamers, but also by game author Thomas Eberhard. The 39-year-old police officer from Rhineland-Palatinate, a passionate Star Citizen fan, has been developing the Star Citizen SQUADRONS Card Game since 2018 under a non-commercial license, creating a unique collectible card game. It was a true fan project, but the charity livestream was about more than just the game: 'We wanted to show that the story of Star Citizen and the SQUADRONS collectible card game is one of passion, community, and generosity, and that we can indeed make the world a little better. That's why we collected donations for children and adolescents with cancer,' says Thomas Eberhard. The event's initial donation goal was set at €2,500. 'But we surpassed that goal in just 20 minutes,' notes Eberhard. In the end, €7,500 were raised for the German Children's Cancer Foundation. 'A generous gesture that showcases the big heart of this gaming community,' says Dr. Dirk Hannowsky, CEO of the German Children's Cancer Foundation."
