GREYCAT CYDNUS (WIP)

I present here a work in progress aiming to achieve the most faithful and complete cydnus greycat (the mining spider) possible. work done with professional CAD software.

outdoor mixing station
and here is a view of the primary system. the large pipes at the bottom come directly from the arms, pass through the two blocks and then enter the body of the beast.
here a view of the centrifuge (seen from outside without its protection) and the gas / fuel refining system.
the large round system (a centrifuge that separates the elements) on the right has been hidden.
finally, there are also a lot of other elements missing unfortunately. which are on my native 3D CAD, but not this older extract.
inside, view of the future corridor, with all the pipes
view under the mining arms of some elements
above the cockpit, with more lights, sensors, and decorative gadgets.
detail on the front elements. light, cooling, air exchanger, and lots of tricks and gizmos to look pretty.
same thing, in front side
the fuel and gas distribution network between the arrivals, the stock, and the elements that use them
the processing center that generates fuel for resale or for the ship
the turbine and pump which are supposed to take certain elements and transform them into something usable
electronic greeble for fun; also notice the system on the ground under the floor
3D Specular grey
draw (inverted)
draw
draw with shadow
titane (polished)
gold (brushed)
smoked plastic
skarlett red with effect
Christal smoke glass
some variation for fun.
with "standard" texture (WIP, unfinished !)

Hi !

I started this work two years ago with the covid. it represented about 3 months of work. I mainly made it on Catia, which I used professionally. Pixyz, Sketchup, Blender and Maya also contributed. I had to stop work for personal reasons and I lost catia. I was therefore unable to continue. right now i'm trying to get a student version to at least finish this project. having recovered a "decent" PC I was able to exploit an FBX extract on Sketchup to evaluate what I lost between this extract and the most recent work I had done, if I were to end up in 3D "art " on blender for example.

I therefore take this opportunity to present the result to you.

a small video is being compiled and will come to YT shortly. I'll edit this post to add it.

hoping you like the project.

LORE:

the graycat cydnus is a curiosity that newcomers should not necessarily know. Greycat specializes, normally, in mining devices. this "spider" is supposed to be some kind of "snub". it can move slowly in space with its reactors to land on an asteroid and undermine it on the ground. it will therefore have to be deployed by a larger vessel. we do not know what the possibilities of on-board refining are. insofar as they are used with a larger one, we can assume that they do not refine. however, I assumed that given its size, the advantage of a deployment with respect to a prospector which is about an equivalent volume was its ability to be more autonomous. to do pre-refining and to create its fuel directly from what it withdraws. and then it was more fun to make a real little factory out of it. we had some info a long time ago (2014 ...) I'll let you look on YT for extracts from ATVs with 3D animation and artwork (google image). there are several different versions of the project. a few years ago, a leak revealed that the cydnus was still in development, especially for subin on SQ42. his affiliation to SQ42 must explain his discretion. it is unknown if it will be available to players. initially as she needed a carrier, which was a space station, this ruled out players. but it would be a shame to spend time making a beautiful ship without being able to use it, wouldn't it? and then coincidentally at the same time, we learned that the orion was doubling in size... well, I'm guessing. but we can dream, right? this "leak" version cannot be found on the internet, but someone used it to make a very clean 3D print of it. this allowed me to have images of the general proportions and the choices of CIG. since then, we saw it again for a few seconds in the background in the presentation of SQ42 in 2021 and the citizencon in 2022. but it's too far to understand the differences compared to the leak.

I normally created an infographic of all the ships in the game, and ... this ship was missing. so I decided to model it. then it kept me busy during the lockdown! once the base is done, I said to myself that as for doing, I might as well add lots of detail and the interior, to maybe make a video, a simulation, what do I know? and that's how we are.

the infographic is progressing, I will publish it soon. although since then others have offered great tools that make this work a little less "useful". I'll share here when I'm done. old version : https://robertsspaceindustries.com/community-hub/post/old-2017-ship-size-infography-xdrliva3biu8r

don't hesitate to tell me what you think! I would add maybe tomorrow or after tomorrow one or two poster-style images by working a little on photoshop.

sorry for the poor english. I am French, I use google, I am too tired and too incompetent to do better than what the translator will suggest!
