While the Morozov armor and P4 are our standard issue gear, we're allowed to carry other stuff if we're proficient enough with them. By all accounts I'm a heavy gunner. Long range marksman rifle and and FS-9 or F-55 LMG, and every gangle down here is finding out quick that Spacemoms loves training specialists.
Bodies mount, they return fire but they catch one sight of the organization patch on my arm and they get skittish. The heavies retreat and send the smaller guys to absorb ammo donations to the torso.
<I'm in your helmet cam, I got eyes on you>
<Do you see the patient?>
<Same place you had your last stand, back of the server room and under a table>
I didn't hide under the table, and I wasn't incapped...
The FS-9 is heavy, but the weight of mass-murdering Ninetails is heavier.
...Kidding, fuck these guys.
They're sending tiny guys to the frontlines despite their fighting being murdered, heavies are hiding in elevators and I'm hucking grenades like they're candy. Door shuts, thud, door opens to smoke and death. It genuinely feels good to be me right now and I wonder if this is how Callie felt that day so long ago.
<You're looking bad, babe! PEN!>
I glance at my hud and I'm T3 from head to toe, but I have never felt so alive and lost in the moment! Callie definetely felt this that day.
I take out my medgun with one hand, Coda in the other and set the medgun to auto while dropping peasants left and right. the adrenaline wears off and I realize I'm actually dying on the opposite side of the bunker.
The gunfire slows, gangles stop coming around and ravi pings me.
<There's a bunch of guys running like hell, and they all loaded up in a ship before taking off...WHAT ARE YOU DOING DOWN THERE?!>
<Is the Carrack still good?>
<They went the opposite way. Saw the ship and u-turned out.>Heh. I'm not THE mom but I am A mom. Motherfuckers be fearing us.
I look at my minimap and spot the server room, I attach my weapons to their magnetic hoslters then sprint. Down the walkway, around a corner, down two sets of stairs and across the open to the server area. I spot a medium grunt who didn't get the memo and I dismiss him from his mortal binds. Turn the corner, run down and see a citizen in the classic white Oddesey undersuit and helmet with an S-38 in her hand.
Fuck, hope we're not too late...
Medical lense shows she's BARELY holding on and I give her a quick revive. T0 injuries everywhere but her head, which is at a T1 and the fact she's still here is a miracle of it's own.
As she comes to she sees me and weakly smiles. "I can't move, can...can you carry me out?" Her voice was extremely weak and strained. I grab her arm and pull her out gently and the gun falls out of her hand.
"I need that...that's all I have..."
"We can get you one at Area 18, sweetie. But first I need to get you back to the Nursa."
I sling her over my shoulder and I hear her grunts.
"I don't have the money for a new one...all my money went into that..."
<M2 inbound, not sure if new gang or UEEN, STEP ON IT!>
Fuck. I do my best to carry the patient out while wincing and groaning through my own injuries. The meds have already worn off and everything is sore as hell. We get to the elvator and I slap the button to take us up.
I feel a rumble in the elevator, something big is coming and I shake the patient a bit.
"You okay, sweetie? We're almost out of here!"
She's snoring, and it gives me hope she'll miss all of this nonsense.
The elevator comes to a slow and there's attritions firing outside.
I set the patient down inside the entrance and take a peek outside to see the M2 taking hits from the turrets which tells me it's the UEE come to claim their bunker back.
I turn to pick up our mark and start walking down the ramp when the turrets shut off.
//We'll excuse that, but only because we were ordered to.//
<I did a thing! I helped!>
I chuckled to myself, I really love that girl.
The hatch of the Nursa opens and I place the patient on the bed and look at the console. She's barely holding on and we need to get her to the Carrack ASAP or she won't make it!
Somebody knocks on the hull of the Nursa and I see a guy in standard UEEN gear sporting a few medals painted on.
"You must be Veridian of the Spacemoms. What are you doing here?" He says coldly.
I squint at the motherfucker but he can't see through a fully-encased helmet.
"Patient pickup, came from Terra to get them back to safety. What do you want?"
"Wai-Wait...you're actually Spacemoms?" The sleepy one tries to sit up.
The officer salutes, and I see ArcCorp's red and black suits running into the bunker behind him.
"We were on the way to take back our Datacenter but looks like you've already forcibly removed the occupants, you have our thanks!"
Deep sigh and a groan.
"Can you step out of the truck for a sec?" I ask him, and he does so after a nod. I walk over and hit the button to raise the ramp while giving him the finger.
"You got what you wanted, piss off and leave us alone."
//We're under orders to do so, but I wanted to thank you.//
<Yeah, let me know when you guys start doing our job and rescue people sent to retrieve corporate property. Bye.>
"Ravi, take us back to the Carrack and be gentle. Don't wanna jostle her too much." I say poking my head into the cabin. She switches seats after saluting me and I sit in the jumpseat.
"You okay over there, honey? We're going as fast as we safely can."
"Hey uh...are you Grendel?" She asks through all the strain she can.
"Nope, I'm Veridian, Ravi is up front. Do you know Grendel?" I ask as I take off my helmet.
"No, I'm just a big fan of hers. She's why I was in that bunker, because I wanted to be a badass like her!" She coughs while trying to stay conscious.
Shes so sweet yet so misinformed.
"No, Callie is our bunker buster, Grendel is just second in command and our head doctor." I say warmly and walk to her side.
<Hey group, Deacon and I are home, where is everybody?>
<I'm with Verdi at Wala, we're about to head to Baijini to drop off a pickup.>
I then turn and poke my head into the cabin and see the Carrack is close.
"We're going home. Somebody wants to meet her hero, just gotta get her on the 'Rack."
"I see, well we're almost there anyways." Ravi says in a confused tone.
Our patient is sleeping on the bed, but the terminal says she needs immediate attention. She's more bullet than flesh so we may end up taking her to Baijini anyways. A few hard bumps and Ravi says we're in the ship, I grab our patient and carry her to the elevator as quickly as I can and hustle to the medbay.
Optic shows she's flatlining and I run, damn near kicking in the glass doors and get her on the bed.
She's now heavily dosed on drugs and stabilizing while Ravi walks in.
"What's her name? Why are we going home instead?" Ravi asks as she leans against me and I wrap my arm around her.
"She's a huge fan of Grendel's. We actually do need to swing by Baijini to get her all caught up but after I wanna take her home to meet her hero." I say, watching the woman sleeping in the bed.
"I can get us there if you keep an eye on her, deal?" Ravi asks.
I nod and Ravi walks off. The offices to the sides of the bed are always dark and calm, and I take the chance to have a seat and nearly nod off if it weren't for the pain.
Really should go to the nursa to patch up.
We make the short jump to Baijini Point and I load our new friend up on a stetcher to be delivered to the medical elevator. I ask the staff to let me know when she's out of surgery because we want to take her home.
They say she doesn't have one. Records show she became a citizen today and her records barely updated before whatever gang of trolls took her out to be killed.
She didn't even have a fucking imprint yet, she was on the verge of death as it was! She was so blindly obsessed with being like her idol that she didn't gear up, arm herself and prepare for a bunker on her own.
Genuinely admire her determination.
Ravi and I go for some fruit smoothies and noodles to decompress in the meantime.
"So she literally went in there trying to be like Grendel, but doing what Callie does? Ravi says before taking a big slurp of noodles.
"Yup, White Oddysey suit, S-38 on the hip and zero mags or medical. Either she's overconfident or she had a deathwish." I say and take a sip of my drink.
<Alrighty Deacon and I are settled back in, is Mom and Ivy still over in the hellhole?>
<Yep, still are and it's growing on me. Ivy's eaten like, two rat skewers haha>
<That's gross, do you two need food?>
<Nah, just trying to food and drink here>
"I think something is wrong with Ivy, she's so damn weird y'know?" Ravi says with noodles hanging from her mouth.
"Yeah but she's the boss's wife and meanest motherfucker on the team, gotta love the weirdness."
//Your patient is available for transport, they will be delivered to your hangar momentarily.//
