One two. One two. One two

The heart beats. The heart speaks. The heart betrays.

One two. One two. One two.

She shouldn’t have touched it. She knew she shouldn’t have touched it, yet she did. It doomed the ship and it doomed the crew. That damned heart. It beats, it throbs, it pounds, it won’t stop. Like a drum, permeating through the skull.

One two one two one two.

Some tried to fight, some tried to hide, but in the end it was pointless. Fighting lost, hiding was found. The blood flowed, the scream echoed, the heart stopped. Why? Why did she touch it? She doomed the crew, and she doomed herself. Her heart betrayed her.

One two one two one two one two.

The ship should have landed. Could have run away, and get away from the death. The slaughter. The horrid slaughter. But it was above the world. Above the ruins…

She didn’t understand, the crew didn’t understand. The ruins were the lock, and it was the key. When she touched it, the key was turned, and the monster was freed. It shattered like an egg, freeing the horror within. There was no warning, there was no chance. She didn’t take the key from the lock, the key came to her. Why did she touch it?!

One two one two one two one two.

She didn’t find it. It appeared. Right on the table, in front of her crew, and in front of her. The ruins gave it to the ship. The ruins wanted it away from the lock. Fly the ship away. Destroy it. There was no sirens call, no temptation, no enticement to free what it imprisoned. But she didn’t take it away. She didn’t even question what it was, and she just touched it. Her heart told her to touch it. Her heart betrayed her, to herself, and to the monster.

It knocked out the systems, with the crew unable to even call for help. They were alone. No, that’s a lie… they weren’t. The monster was there. Freed. Confused. Angry. Surrounded by the deafening slams of their hearts…

Claws like ice, or were they blades? I can’t even remember. They cut so deep, silencing the heart, the heart that had betrayed them. Spoke where they were, told the whole story before it was perforated. The armor was like wet paper. It meant nothing between the ice and the heart. The guns, so loud, did nothing, like they missed every time. Like the toy of a child. But even the loud guns couldn’t hide the beating heart.

Faster it beats, adrenaline and dread, every beat like a bomb. It throbs and thrashes through the chest, through the skull, unrelenting. It’s heard. It’s hunted. Did this monster want to kill? What’s the damn point of such hellacious atrocities upon people? It’s all about the heart, that’s it. Just the heart. To this monster, the heart must stop.

I don’t know if the slaughter can be stopped. The crew is dead, all of them. Ripped apart for their hearts to stop. Yet the ship survived, and the monster moves on, freed from a prison even it wanted to stay in. Others have found the Vara, thought it adrift and boarded, hoping for answers of a legend. They all ended the same. Their hearts betrayed them, pummeling into the mind. So many gone… and yet they still come. The stench…

That damned heart… it hammers the soul. If the heart is heard, the monster manifests. Hide away, and the heart will thrum, like a flashing light in the monster’s senses. A lure. It needs to stop. It needs to end. The heart betrays. It won’t whisper, it won’t whimper, it roars, and it brings this monster.

It brings this monster.

It brings this monster!

OneTwoOneTwoOneTwoOneTwo

You need to understand! The heart betrays! It betrays you! It betrays everyone! This beat, this sound, this… Horrid pulse. It brings this monster to you!

OneTwoOneTwoOneTwoOneTwo

Don’t you get it?! This isn’t my heart you’re hearing!

It’s yours!
