Horror Story 2955 - The Power Cell

Engineer's log, October 23rd 2557. Chief Technician Rei Yu aboard the Vara. Today marks quite a surprising find. Tisiphone insisted we look at the remains of that halved planet and, well, it was a fruitful endeavor in the end. We found a power cell of sorts - perfect timing too, we needed it. Vara's power generator has been entirely done in by a massive solar storm that followed us down to the planet's surface. Frankly, the generator isn't working and we're running mostly on hopes and dreams. A couple hours of elbow grease later though and I rigged this power cell as a quick fix. But now she's running better than she ever did before! Gotta track the performance over the next few days.

Side note: I hate these Hadesian sites. I always feel like someone's glaring at me from behind, and Tisiphone's constantly mumbling here. I can't shake the feeling that everything is just...off. The winds practically hum, and to be honest, I think I hear things in the walls. And all these runes give me the creeps for some reason. The ones on the power cell seem particularly ominous.

Engineer's log, October 24th 2557. Day 2 and I'll say, that damn power cell will make us rich. In fact, the power generator is outputting *too* much power. We've had to bleed a lot of it off as waste heat into the coolers, but if my numbers are right, our little Vara is generating power like a ship three times her size. And yet our EM signature is half of what it used to be. Tisiphone has us heading to Hades II. Keeps fussing about some vision she saw there. All I know is, if we keep finding tech like this power cell we'll become legends across the UEE. Still, I need to make some adjustments. That power cell is leaking some weird blue plasma, the thrusters have tripped twice today, and the life support system is spewing all sorts of funky errors. It's likely just spitting out too much juice for things to handle.

Engineer's log, October 25th 2557. It's gone wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong. Tisiphone is gone. The whole damn crew is gone. Another surge overloaded the power cell, rupturing it and spilling yet more plasma. Vara is dead in the water, and there's a...thing...prowling around on the ship. Lurking in walls. I looked for Hyoi for 8 hours only to find him on the flight deck. His eyes were cratered with plasma. I could almost feel his soul leaking out. I pray only that Tisiphone is alive. I glimpsed the monstrosity in her room. A hulking mass imposing over her bed. A blue surge sparked from its eyes to the head of her bed. As it slowly turned to me, I stood frozen. Its power burned at my spine as I smelled the rotting oozing thing probing at my soul. It twitched and writhed in place, then it too froze. Just as soon as I blinked, it was gone and I was flung to the floor by Vara lurching forward suddenly as the thrusters surged one last time. That monster's pulsating bluish veins are seared into my mind, and the muscles...writhing, crawling along its back...God...she's dead isn't she? They're all dead...

Anyone! Please! This is a distress call! It's a cryptid - the ship is not safe! The system is not safe! Tisiphone is clawing desperately at the door. Vara's power is spiking wildly. The monstrosity has Tisiphone, it's consuming her, searing through her eyes with that damned plasma. I can hear her pleading. I've locked myself in the engine room. I...I don't think it can get in here like it got to her. Oh god...the power cell. I can see the voltages pulsing. Hear the plasma pumping. Sense the cables constricting around the room. Feel the walls creeping in. Finally I saw it... The glyphs on the cell shimmered. No...not like this. Please... Tisiphone. I'm sorry.
