Here are three easy principles for fastest translation in zero G:

Always trichord. The fastest way to stop your ship is to trichord in the other direction. Coupled/retros or spacebrake is vastly inferior. Decoupled only at all times

If your single goal is to move from A to B in the fastest time possible in a no-atmosphere environment, you should be in a trichord. Every single time. By racing, you will learn how to stay in an MPA-trichord situation in zero-G at all times, including while mitigating G forces. But with practice, and by striving to be at the top of the leaderboards, you will learn not only how to do these things, but you will do them automatically, and better than your opponent.

THAT word is the key. Automatic. You will not have to think about mitigating G’s. You will not have to think about changing rotational vector while maintaining a constant trichord. You can save those parts of your brain for more difficult subjects, like tactics.

Obviously, I do not expect you to always be able to follow those three principles, nor will you be able to. You will be doing yaw-only turns to mitigate G’s, you will be retrobraking to mitigate vector control, you will be doing all kinds of unoptimal things that cause you to be slower than the next guy. The one and only way you are ever going to reach your top potential is through practice. Depending on your level of competency and level of commitment, it could take weeks, it could take months, it could take years.

But every time you wonder how you just couldn’t escape that barrage of fire that killed you, remember that this kind of practice can give you that extra edge to keep you alive and outmaneuver your foe.

I strongly, STRONGLY encourage all of you to keep yourself accountable as a pilot and attempt to get on the leaderboards at SCR.gg. As a member of this org, you should feel some level of responsibility to yourself and to your wingmen to guarantee them that you will not let them down, and publicly proving your level of skill is a great way to start.
