Introducing: The Pistols of Pride

These are five pistols found in the ‘verse, each one made this month specifically for this years “Show Us Your Colors Celebration” contest. Each one has been made to scale, using a lovely rainbow Silk PLA filament similar to how they would be displayed in the game which such coloration, with a few creative liberties.

Here are the pistols, in order (going from picture number 2 onward):

Lightning Bolt Co. Yubarev: made with faux wood grips, a removeable magazine, copper accents, and the internals are even viewable thanks to the clear resin, this was the most complicated out of all the builds due to all the model editing needed to make it work, but I am incredibly satisfied with the results.

Behring Applied Technology S-38: Not only does this recreation sport rubberized grips, it also has a removeable magazine, with a removeable bullet, but the slide is actually able to move as if it were being cocked (or fired).

Klaus & Werner Arclight: Probably the most popular pistol in the game, this lovingly made recreation sports rubberized grips, along silver and copper accents. Like the other pistols so far, this also has a removable magazine.

Kastak Arms Coda: Often called a “hand cannon” this recreation has a dual-rainbow tone to it going in opposite directions at the barrel. Sadly, this does not have a removeable magazine, as the mechanism on the top was far, far too complex for me to get to work in less than 28 days, especially if it was just made of plastic.

Hedeby Gunworks Salvo Frag: I’m going to admit, this pistol gave me the most trouble out of off the pistols I made. Not only did I have a significant amount of trouble getting the model to work, but my printer kept having all sorts of problems with it, causing the prints to fail. It happened so much that I ended up running out of filament to make this last pistol. However, with its vibrant top receiver, and lower receiver/grip painted with silver and gold gilding wax, it certainly has its place alongside the others.

All of the models were taken directly from the game itself, scaled up, heavily edited, printed, sanded, assembled, and painted. I used a variety of different materials to make them: PLA, Silk PLA, Wood PLA, PETG, TPU, and clear resin, while using acrylic paints, spray paints, rubber paints, and gilding wax, along with a lot of masking tape.

All in all, it’s the culmination of about 250 hours of model editing, printing, building, sanding, cutting, assembling, gluing, and painting, and I am quite happy with the end result, and I hope you like it too.

Once again, Happy Pride Month!
