So... we finally got a 'outside' look at the Idris back in the International Aerospace Expo, and i must say, I cant wait till we are able to actually get 'into' this beast of a ship.
To me, i think the Idris symbolizes how much Star Citizen has 'changed' since its initial trailers way back in 2012. Not only in the Technology, but also in the pure sense of 'scale'. It's initial concept left you with a near DeathStar interior tunnel run to land/launch from the inside of the Ship via a fighter. Whereas now, the 'updated' Idris, complete with full standards and such, you not only have room to walk around the fighters stored within, but also have 'wiggle-room' inside for landing / taking off.
Many people will continue to claim that Star Citizen will never 'come out'. But i feel the Idris is a testament to how far the dream has come along, as well as a bold statement that the Dev's 'want' it to succeed right the first time around, rather than having to 'rework ships' post-launch. All you need to understand this, is to picture the Idris as it 'was', its initial specs, and try to imagine it in-game with the current ships we have and how well/bad it would function.
Yes it 'could' have been out by now, but how well would it actually work? I would much rather wait till something is done 'right', than get a half-assed job first, only to have to wait 2 years for it to be 'patched better', as is the case with almost all supposed "AAA" Games for the past 10 years.
