The following steps have solved the issue.

Deactivate the web protection in the antivirus app. If you want to have the web protection active, you have to add the address and the apps to the web protection whitelist. To do this, go to Avira Settings (icon with the gear wheel). Then click on Security options in the window that opens and click on Web protection. Now you can add the following addresses as safe under Domain list. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ and https://ptu.cloudimperiumgames.com/ Under secure apps i have added the C:\Roberts Space Industries\RSI Launcher\RSI Launcher.exe and the one for LIVE C:\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE\Bin64\StarCitizen.exe as well as for PTU C:\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\PTU\Bin64\StarCitizen.exe added. You must change the installation path if necessary. Now it should also work with activated web protection. If not, leave the web protection deactivated.
