Wizadore was Chris Roberts' first commercially sold game outside of magazines. It was published by Imagine in 1985 and became a bestseller. It was Chris Roberts' big breakthrough in the industry at the age of 16.
The game itself is a platformer with smooth horizontally scrolling screens and a 3 item inventory. As you can read in the instructions the player have to get the 3 parts of the sword to kill the dragon. You don’t start with any offensive weaponry but there are 3 scrolls in the game which can be picked up and used to cast offensive spells. These spells each destroy a certain type of enemy, but the archers were all invulnerable and the player needs to jump over their arrows.
Trivia:
The Cover was made by Robert "Bob" Wakelin a British illustrator best known for his extensive catalog of box art for UK publisher Ocean Software and related label Imagine Software.
Chris tried unsuccessfully to sell Wizadore to Ultimate Play the Game, a UK video game developer and publisher, but Martin Galway, who worked at Ocean Software, mentioned it, and Ocean decided to take it and use it for Imagine, the company they had just bought.
