Founded by American multi-millionaire philanthropist and ex-lunar astronaut Jeff Tracy, International Rescue is a top-secret organisation established to save people from mortal danger with the aid of technologically advanced land, sea, air and space rescue vehicles and equipment, launched from a hidden island base located in the South Pacific Ocean.

Although the organisation’s principles are humanitarian, IR’s rescue operations are sometimes triggered not by misadventure, but by deliberate sabotage driven by human greed for power and riches. For missions requiring criminal investigation or military intelligence, IR incorporates a global network of undercover agents. Security is vital – and this is usually handled by I.R.‘s London based special agent, Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward.
