Shinsengumi Ethical Code

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell. — Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, The Dhammapada Chapter 8, verses 103-105.

Follow Bushido in all things

I will never forget that I am a Shinsengumi, fighting for honour, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which we stand.

Control your general & cabal chat – be polite to each other as well as to other players. As part of Shinsengumi, you are one of our ambassadors – you represent us in the game world. Disrespectful behaviour to each other or non-members, will dishonor the Shinsengumi. If a disagreement should arise with an enemy, have the discussion in private and remain civil.

Finally, we insist on respect for the people outside the game, that means different nationalities, accents, play styles – casual players and hardcore players. We are all in this together and our mosaic makes us stronger in unity.

All communication to the official gaming community will come from Commanders 局長 (Kyokuchô) or Vice Commanders 副長 (Fukuchô). Members are free to participate on any official forums as long as they speak for themselves and do not get involved in a conversation directed at the Shinsengumi. If another cabal or individual starts a derogatory thread directed at Shinsengumi, just tell leadership and ignore it.

We are primarily a PvP unit, we expect a certain level of leadership and integrity and Shinsengumi members never say die in – even when odds are against us, you will kill and die honourably!

So Sad We Fall
Kuribayashi Tadamichi 1891-1945

Unable to complete this heavy task for our country
Arrows and bullets all spent, so sad we fall.

But unless I smite the enemy,
My body cannot rot in the field.
Yea, I shall be born again seven times
And grasp the sword in my hand.

When ugly weeds cover this island,
My only thoughts will be the Imperial Land.

Seeing as assisting with the growth & training of individual members increases the strength of Shinsengumi as a whole, Shinsengumi members are encouraged to help fellow Shinsengumi with advice.

Commanders局長 – running Cabal business, interacting with the larger community, settling disputes and setting Cabal policies
Vice Commanders副長 – organize battle orders during Combat
Captains組長 – organize their squads. They assess the needs, playstyles and hours of their squads

We are all here to enjoy our time playing and we need to understand that we all have the right to have fun together. If you have an idea for improvement, want to help organize events or any general suggestions, either post on the website or speak with an Officer, we are an open cabal and encourage feedback. However, if you have an issue or a problem regarding the guild, or with the direction it’s taking, please first speak with a Commander 局長 or Vice Commanders 副長.

If you have an issue or a problem with one of the cabal members, please bring it to a Commander 局長before airing it with the member. To do so, either use E-mail on the Shinsengumi website, or with a direct tell to a Commander 局長. The Commanders 局長will take care of dispute resolution.

In extreme cases of violating the Shinsengumi code, a vote of Commanders 局長and Vice Commanders副長will determine disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the Cabal.

Shinsengumi aspires to have all battles and victories conducted with honor. To maintain the distinction of the Cabal, Shinsengumi forbids the use of hacks, exploits, glitches or cheats, especially when used to gain the advantage during battle. This is a zero tolerance zone! Cheat and find another cabal.

Members not active for 70 days may be removed (at times, we may allow a few days and as much as 95 if the grace period runs close to the holidays or an upcoming in-game event). Members on extended vacation, medical, or taking a break are welcome to contact a Commanders 局長upon return.

Members are asked to log on to the Cabal website once per week. We do this to make sure everyone is informed about cabal activities and business. We will post battle orders, events and organize PvE and PvP activities. It is further to ensure timely application process.

Applications will be open for 1 week if there are zero, no votes in the timeframe then the application is accepted. This gives everyone a chance to voice any concern they have… if someone doesn’t post and we invite someone that another member has a issue with it is their own fault for not stepping forward. We want the application process to be open and welcoming. We have a great collection of players from various parts of the world and various levels of skill and specialties and do not want to project ourselves as elitist in any way. What we want in recruiting is a group of people who are willing to learn and who never give up, we consider this far better in the end than players with a lot of skill but not willing to listen to advice.

Addendum to recruiting: we are holding off on recruitment drives.

New members are on a trial member status. The trial member status is for new additions to the guild that will be eligible to be promoted to full-member status after four weeks. During those four weeks, trial members will be expected to follow the code of conduct and otherwise meet all expectations of full guild members.

Throughout the four week period, the Cabal Officers and Full-members will monitor the conduct of the player, PvP/PvE performance, behavior within and outside of the guild, as well as his/her conduct with other cabal members.

In addition, we have a Mumble server. Not everyone has the equipment for this, therefore the default means of communication in groups shall be chat. Nonetheless, if you have Mumble, its use is encouraged. The only restriction is to use the appropriate channel.
