Black Flag Rising was forged from a compact between several, less than legal indites and freelancers, to come together for the benefit of… Chaos. Five distinct squadrons, each with a distinct skill set, formed to decompose the moral fabric of the known ‘Verse and profit from the carelessness and misfortune of others.

The Beginning

For hundreds of years small groups of pirates, smugglers, hackers, spies, and brawlers suffered under the reign of Messer. The 2546 declaration to establish the United Empire of Earth (UEE) brokered a monstrous alliance between worlds. Intelligence reports were shared more freely between systems and local security, mere flies in the verse, were empowered and outfitted by the UEE. Under Messer’s protection these groups of thugs acted without impunity. Millions of citizens were arrested, property confiscated, and lost their lives. Many fled the corruption of the UEE to carve out their own home in the ‘Verse, but not without loss. Now fending for themselves, these settlements developed an arrogance that comes with centuries of self-reliance.

The Breaking Point

Over two hundred years later, in the late 2700’s and after the Massacre of Garron II (2792), the Fair Chance Act is ratified, decreeing that is a capital crime to attempt to terraform planets with developing creatures. These planets are to be left alone to give the species a chance to advance/evolve (2795). Again, the UEE forces millions to abandon their worlds, homes, lives. A population that refuses to live under it dictatorship is now decimated over the discovery of primates. The Messer Era’s point has been made; You are less than animals.

Current Era

With the increasing aggression from the Vanduul, the UEE has been forced to focus more of its efforts and resources to battling an invading enemy. Heavy losses on the UEE front has spawned a surge of new, inexperienced military leaders. Security on transport lanes are growing thin making cargo haulers ripe for the picking. Battlefields are littered with alien and advanced military tech. And out of the ashes an band of outcasts and ruffiens has formed. The time to hoist the Black Flag has come.
