Roadmap Roundup

Happy Friday, everyone!

Each and every week, we accompany the Roadmap update with a brief explanatory note to give you insight into the decision-making that led to any changes. This is part of an effort to make our communications more transparent, more specific, and more insightful for all of you who help to make Star Citizen and Squadron 42 possible.

With that said, let’s go ahead and dive into this week’s Roadmap Roundup!

Notable Changes for May 8th, 2020

Naming conventions have been updated for upcoming quarterly patches. Patch 2.0 introduced a universe, while 3.0 introduced explorable planetary bodies, so it only makes sense that 4.0 be reserved for a similar landmark moment, such as heading to a new system. For this reason, Alpha 4.0 and 4.1 have been renamed to Alpha 3.10 and 3.11 respectively.

NPC Scheduler
As time has passed, the work needed for this card has changed and grown, and the original approach to these tasks will need to be adjusted to accommodate those changes. We’ve removed this card from the roadmap for the time being, and are planning to return it in a series of new cards in an upcoming column.

Shield System Tech Replacement
Additional VFX work is needed on tasks in this card, and the VFX team does not have the bandwidth to complete those tasks within the current timeline. We’ve temporarily removed this card from the roadmap until we are able to determine exactly where it will fall on our schedule.

FPS: Realistic Weapon Handling
The scope of the tasks involved in this card has increased, and we’ve adjusted the deadline to give the team ample time to complete these tasks up to standard. We’ve temporarily removed this card from the roadmap until we are able to determine exactly where it will fall on our schedule.

Ocean Shader Improvements
This card has been added to the Alpha 3.10 column and has been marked as Polishing. | Adding support for in-game oceans to react to flares and local lights using screen-space and cubemap reflection. Upgraded shading to include a Fresnel component and Sub-surface scattering term, and new shader features, to enhance the realism of oceans with improved refraction and additional detail layers.

Images have been updated for the following cards:
  • Lightning Bolt Co. Atzkav Electron Sniper Rifle
  • Lightning Bolt Co. Yubarev Electron Pistol
  • Klaus & Werner Sledge Mass Driver Revision
  • Mission Giver: Eddie Parr
The following cards have moved into Polishing
  • FPS: Cover Usage V1
  • FPS Combat: Weapon Types

That’s all for this week! Join the discussion on Spectrum.
