This Week in Star Citizen
October 21st, 2019

Happy Monday, everyone!

Alpha 3.7.1 will be hitting live servers soon and will bring with it a myriad of bug fixes and improvements. Get the inside scoop on everything that changed in the latest set of patch notes here.

The 31st is quickly approaching and we’re hosting not one, but two absolutely spooktacular contests to get you in the Halloween spirit. Get creative and show us your carving skills with our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest, or dive deep underground, and arrange a terrifying scene to enter into our Caves of Horror Screenshot Contest.

It’s your last chance to enter our Mantis Commercial Contest before submissions close this Thursday at 11:59 PM Pacific. Create a short video showing us what you think happens following the events of the official RSI Mantis commercial. Will the hunter become the hunted? Will the Mantis support fleet appear on the scene? Will there be a quick escape? Let your imagination run wild!

Now, let’s see what’s going on this week:

On Tuesday, the Lore Team has a treat for us with the second part of the Serialized Fiction, “Second Run.”

This Wednesday, we’ll release both waves of tickets to the CitizenCon official pre-party Bar Citizen event. Check out wave times & event details here. Tickets are of limited quantity, so be sure to plan accordingly!

This Thursday, keep an eye out for the return of Inside Star Citizen. This week’s episode will highlight work on modular space station interiors, food courts, and annunciator panels, and more.

Friday will bring us updates to the Roadmaps and the Subscriber Vault, Jump Point will release its October issue, and the weekly newsletter will be delivered straight to your inbox. And finally, we welcome a new episode of Star Citizen Live, which will be broadcasting on our Star Citizen Twitch channel. This Friday at 9 am Pacific, 4 pm UTC we’ll be joined by Cory Bamford from the Props Team in a Gamedev feature where explore the process of creating a noodle-tastic asset for the Persistent Universe.

Until next time, I’ll see ya in the ‘verse!

Weekly Wisdom: Mining Safety Lesson

You’re in a cave, you’ve found a nice rock, going to mine yourself some shiny crystal shards to trade in for some money, life’s good. You crank up that multi-tool and go to town. But something seems up, the rock starts to glow. You keep on going anyway, you’re sure all that beeping and red flashing is totally normal. Then, out of nowhere, the rock explodes, and you die. Your tool is lost in a cave on a faraway planet, and you wake up loot-less in Port Olisar.

You, like many others, made the mistake of not keeping an eye on your rock’s energy level (located on the left side of the multi-tool’s UI and the bottom left side of the Prospector’s UI). You’ll want to work your way up to the green zone, and stay there until the rock fractures and you can collect your loot! When you enter the red zone, you’re in danger of your rock exploding and taking you with it.

Some of you may say “Hey Molly, this isn’t wisdom, it’s common knowledge!”, but a bit of quick research shows that some of you may need a refresher.

Community MVP: OCTOBER 21ST, 2019

We are constantly amazed by the contributions made by the Star Citizen community. Whether it's fan art, a cinematic, a YouTube guide, or even a 3D print of your favorite ship, we love it all! Every week, we select one piece of content submitted to the Community Hub and highlight it here. The highlighted content creator will be awarded an MVP badge on Spectrum and be immortalized in our MVP section of the Hub.

Don’t forget to submit your content to our Community Hub for a chance at seeing it here!
