INTRA-AGENCY MESSAGE

Re: Update

Tom,

Word has finally come from the Xi’An embassy. They’re going to release the identity of the spy they’ve been holding for the past few weeks. I’ll relay the package to you as soon as I get it. They are still keeping the ‘incontrovertible evidence’ against him or her quiet, but we can at least get a look at who they’re holding.

I want you to clear any and all assets that you need to run this person down. I want to know everything about their suspect before Costigan and the Senate start coming after us.

Thanks,

Re: Update

Good morning Sir,

Understood. I’ve already begun to pull a team together from our best onsite analysts and agents so we’ll be ready to move as soon as we receive the intel.

I’ve also notified a select group of Section Chiefs to place a few trusted Agents on standby to run down leads in the field, should we need it.

Please advise if you have any other suggestions, otherwise we will hold until further instruction.

Regards,

Re: Update

Thanks, Tom. That sounds good. I will defer to your judgment regarding your immediate team, but I would be hesitant to entrust any of the Section Chiefs with the information we receive, regardless of your history with them.

With the amount of necks that could end up on the chopping block because of this debacle, we should move forward assuming that anyone could be a potential leak.

The flood’s coming; we need to make sure we have the best boat.

Of course. We’ll keep it light and quiet. I will personally vouch for all the members working out of my office on this. I have served with each of them in my various postings over the years and trust them implicitly.

Re: Update

No need to validate them. As I mentioned earlier, I trust your judgment, but I would always rather err on the side of clarity.

The intel from the Xi’An Embassy just arrived. You will find it attached. Will read through myself.

Let’s reconvene for a surface analysis in one hour.

Re: Update

Here’s what we have uncovered about the alleged spy in our initial investigation.

His name is Jenk Gallen (DOB: 2903.12.8 SET, POB: Lady of Mercy/TRAM/ASURA/FERRON). Only family we have found is a wife, Ada Sinclair, who works as an Equivalency counselor. No real background on the wife yet, aside from basic UEE personal file.

Jenk Gallen is a different matter. Starting around fifteen, Gallen has multiple criminal charges for assault and burglary. Served prison time in Ferron, Davien, and a stretch in Croshaw, total around ten years. No charges after his last parole in 2930. Either he cleaned up or got better at concealing his crime.

Passed his Equivalency in 2934. I’m presuming that’s how he met Ada Sinclair. Been working as a freelance hauler ever since. Dispatched a team to crack into that history, looking into clients, common routes, etc. Gallen and his wife have a current residency in Ferron. We’ve tasked an agent to question her.

Do you know if the Diplomatic Corp or anyone from the UEE has contacted the wife yet? I need to prep the investigating agent how to approach. If she hasn’t, should we tell her, question under a fictitious reason, or just let the DC handle it?

My initial personal assessment: This guy doesn’t scream spy. I think his background and personality would make him too unstable to even be approached for spycraft. Again, that’s an off-the-cuff analysis; we will get into this guy’s life and see what we find.

Will keep you apprised,

Re: Update

Thanks for the quick work, Tom.

No, the wife hasn’t been told yet. Leave that to the Diplomatic Corp. Have your Agent check in before making contact, but prepare a cover story in case she’s still in the dark.

I just reviewed Gallen’s file and your team’s initial analysis. Dig into his criminal contacts. I want to know if Gallen’s reverted back to his old ways. While that should be our first avenue to pursue or clear, I’ll be honest, I find it highly unlikely that the Xi’An would confuse a common criminal or smuggler as a spy.

You mention that he had a few hauling routes into Xi’An systems. Has someone been dispatched to look into whoever was sending him on those routes? Find out if any of those companies affiliated with the Senate, either through campaign contributions or via shell corporations.

Do you think the Senate is responsible?

I think an element of the Senate might be. Act accordingly.
